About This Site

A collection of rough working notes concerning the history of ideas and ethnicity

An examination of the impact of Charles Darwin’s idea on Scottish culture and the reaction to it in Scottish cultural studies in 1860, with a particular focus on ethnology; including other tales of ‘romance’.

Will contain other things as I happen across them relating to aspects of British and Irish culture between the 6th and 21 cen. and whatever else may be on my mind.

Method

It’s not a blog so much as a work dairy. The idea was floated years ago in archeology that at the end of a days dig, site worker’s should write-up their thoughts as a means of resolving problems with subjectivity and objectivity. Many but not all of the sources used are discussed as and when I hit them for the first time. They are a first impression and will be subject to considerable change as I gain more experience with the subject.
